Two monologues from Sam Affoumado‘s full-length play, THE PANIC DEFENSE, have been included in a newly released Smith & Kraus anthology, WE/US: Monologues for THE GENDER MINORITY. It is one of the first anthologies to give voice, on stage, to characters who represent all of our beautifully unique differences. A special thanks to Debbie Lamedman (Editor) for choosing my work.

Marcus Scott presented his black comedy sports drama Joy Comes In The Morning with The Road Theatre Company in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, November 27 via Zoom. It will receive an in-personal developmental workshop in Spring 2023. Joy Comes in the Morning follows Joy and Marisol, two girl grapplers who strike out to prove they have what it takes to be the next big thing in professional wrestling. When a major sports entertainment company begins casting for a reality TV show to find that next female wrestling superstar, the two are put through the ringer with the condition that only one will walk away with a contract and a chance at greatest. Will these two friends get their shot at glory or are the simply destined to watch from the bleachers? Joy Comes In The Morning explores sexism, misogynoir, and exploitation in the world of contact sports, deconstructs the mythos of strong black women and stereotypes surrounding women of color, investigates identity and alter egos while examining female sexuality and homoeroticism in contract sports.
