The people have spoken… The March People’s Choice Award goes to Le’Kee Horton for his play New Edition, presented as a staged reading at The Producers Club and via livestream on March 24th. Congratulations, Le’Kee!

CHARACTERS
TYE – M, early to mid 30s, sensitive and sentimental, husband of Alan
ALAN – M, early to mid 30s, a simple man, husband of Tye

SETTING
A large package sits in the back of the room while TYE and ALAN eat their dinner.

TYE
Well, Mr. Murphy.

ALAN
Yes, Mr. Murphy?

TYE
Happy anniversary.

ALAN
Happy anniversary!
(They toast their drinks and take sips. ALAN holds TYE’s hand lovingly)
Five years in the blink of an eye.

TYE
Never a dull day.

ALAN
Never. You know, it’s not too late to do a little getaway to celebrate. I can take some days off
work.

TYE
We don’t have to go anywhere, we can celebrate in different ways.

ALAN
Oh really? Well what did you have in mind sir?

TYE
Definitely not what you have in mind.

ALAN
Well does it have something to do with that big ass box?

TYE
We’ll get to the box don’t mind that yet.

ALAN
I’ll certainly try.

TYE
How have you been feeling about things?

ALAN
I love things. Sometimes I hate things. Some things are funny, some things are gross. There are a lot of things, what thing are you asking about?

TYE
Us Alan.

ALAN
Oh, yeah that’s my favorite thing.

TYE
Mine as well.

ALAN
Good, I was nervous.

TYE
Don’t you think though, sometimes we could use an extra thing?

ALAN
You wanna have a threesome?

TYE
No. Well, no yeah no.

ALAN
You wanna be in one of those five way relationships where you pretend you don’t have a favorite
but you very obviously do.

TYE
No, I’ve already been in one of those look Alan focus. I want a new addition to our relationship.

ALAN
And that doesn’t mean a threesome?

TYE
No. An addition to make us a family. A baby.
